How Can I Support You?

Congratulations!  No doubt you’re here looking at this page because you’re pregnant.  Maybe you’re feeling a little overwhelmed, confused, elated, excited and in need of some extra support and guidance.  Pregnancy is a journey, with the end destination being parenthood.  Imagine it like having a blind date, but one where you know, you will meet the absolute love of your life at the end of it.  During your nine-month adventure, you will experience a variety of emotional and physical changes.  Some will be exciting and exhilarating, while some maybe worrisome, uncomfortable and painful.  Whatever happens, whether it is your first baby, or you are already parents, my soul ambition is simple, to be there for you, by offering encouragement and reassurance, helping to make your labour a positive experience for you, your partner and baby.

What next?

Introductions

My role as your Doula, is not to take the place of your partner, but to compliment and enhance your birth experience.

To kick things off, I offer a FREE initial meeting, which is a chance for us to get to know each other a little better.  We can meet anywhere of your choosing, to have a tea or coffee, where we can discuss:

  • Your wishes and hopes for your baby's birth.

  • Why you would like a doula?  How you would like me to support you and your partner?

  • Ask me anything. Find out about how I can support you.

  • Discuss whatever is in your heart surrounding your pending birth.

Prenatal Meetings

If you decide that you would like me to be your doula, we will have a further 3 follow-up meetings, where I can take this time to understand you, hear your concerns, and listen to your needs.  We will talk about your options and choices for birth, as well as learn more about the birth process.  There is an infinite amount of information available about pregnancy and labour, which can feel completely overwhelming; so my job, is the help guide you through the information overload, and provide everything you require to make sure your birth experience is as calm and positive as possible.

  • Through our prenatal visits we will assess your needs and desires for birth, define and understand our expectations of one another, and I will provide you and your partner with useful tools for during labor and birth.

  • Provide birth plan assistance to help you clarify your preferences for birth, and explain the options that are available to you.

  • Rehearsing of comfort measures, birth positions, tips for your partner, and relaxation techniques. We will discuss and define each of our roles for during labour.

  • Attendance at 1 appointment with your midwife/doctor.

  • Unlimited phone / text / email / WhatsApp support during office hours.

You can rely on me to be a continuous presence, guiding you through your labor, offering encouragement and reassurance, helping to make your birth a positive experience for you, your partner and baby.

  • I will be your continuous physical, emotional, and informational support, for you and your partner for the duration of labor and birth.  I will support you, to hold on to, and move towards the vision you created for your baby's birth.

  • During pre-labor we will keep in touch as much as you’d like, and I will come to you whenever you feel you need me.

  • During active labor, I will be with you the entire time.  Helping you to remember your breathing techniques, and comfortable labor positions. I will support you with massage and acupressure so that you can focus as much on your experience as possible.

  • Supporting your partner to feel included, engaged and active during labor and birth, to help them process their emotions, and remind and guide them through the techniques we rehearsed during our prenatal meetings.

  • I will protect your environment, to ensure it remains safe for you to birth peacefully and without fear.

After the big day, within two weeks of your baby being born, we will have our postpartum follow-up visit. We will celebrate the birth of your baby, discuss your memories of the birth and how you felt during labor, to help both you and your partner process the labor and birth experience. I will also answer any questions you have during the early postpartum period, offering sign posting where necessary.
